Facebook scammers love taking advantage of celebrities like Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, Charlie Sheen, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Emma Watson. Their latest targets are Rihanna and Hayden Panettiere, with a dash of sex and Mac malware.
Just like with previous scams, they are leveraging Facebook with sensational headlines to target ignorant victims. This version says something along the lines of “one more stolen home porn video ;) Rihanna and Hayden Panettiere” or “Hot Lesbian Video - Rihanna And Hayden Panettiere!!” or “Rihanna And Hayden Panettiere !!! Private Lesbian HOT Sex Tape stolen from home archive of Rihanna!” followed by a link. According to Sophos, the link unsurprisingly has nothing to do with either of the two celebrities, and will instead try to infect you with malware, at least if you’re using an Apple Mac.
It’s not clear at this point if scammers are also using the typical way to spread Facebook scams: get the user to share the link with their friends on the social network. As I’ve recommended before, if you see a scam like this one, report it. Then go check your own Wall to make sure you’re not helping spreading the scam; the sooner you clean it up and unlike the page, the better. You can even contact Facebook Security if you’d like to.
