It's Been a Good {Mustache}Ride

Sorry. I know that's a pretty gross saying usually but I'm using it in a nicer way. I promise.
Has your significant other been using his upper lip for good this month? I was lucky enough to be a part of a great cause, Movember, for the last 30 days. No, I didn't grow a mustache. It's not in my genes. But Matty did. Here he is alongside the other guys on his team who grew their 'staches to bring awareness for men's health and Team HP4K.
We had about a dozen teams and so many players across the globe participating. The guys may have looked more like they were brought into the drunk tank for the night rather than doing something for a good cause, but what can you do?

Let's end Movember on a high note and take a look at some of the greatest mustaches of all time!
The Hulkster
Tom Selleck
I'm not sure who this is but I like it.
George Parros. NHLer & HP4K member!
My most favorite mustache. Dale Earnhardt, Senior. RIP #3
Ron Burgundy
Albert you're such a jokester.
Yes, I'm glad the mustache is a thing of the past, but for one month out of the year I can take it. Anything for a good cause in my mind. Or have you seen these? I really want myself a set.
Urban Outfitters really does have some great apartment stuff! Love their chaise lounges and little knick knacks. Not too many knick knacks though people. Don't want to look like a trailer in the middle of the Tennessee backwoods. And believe you me, I know what that is!

So for the last post in November let's leave on a good note, alongside a legend. Can't you just hear him say this?

I'M MISSING IT!!!!!

YES! I'M SCREAMING AT YOU! BECAUSE I'M MISSING THE VICTORIA'S SECRET FASHION SHOW! AGAIN!!!
I love this show. So much. Have you ever read my About Me page? Number 15. I have always wanted to make the playlist for this show. The music is always really good, the fashion is awesome, the girls are obviously gorg, and it looks like so much freaking fun!

Plus I only wear Victoria's Secret's, um, underthings. It's super comfortable and perfect for my, um, size. Ha!

Also, I love Marisa Miller. She's a bombshell. No, I'm not trying to be funny with the terminology here.
Honestly, who wouldn't love to be sitting front row at this thing. It's more about fun than serious high fashion. It's a party rather than a stuffy judgement ceremony.  So in honor of this awesome night, here are some of my all-time favorite VS looks!

It's All So Exciting

The last few days I have been doing some majorly exciting things. Let me explain ...

Matt and the rest of HC Asiago left for Herning, Denmark on Wednesday morning around 6 AM to go battle it out in the first round of the IIHF Continental Cup 2011/12.
Each year the champions from the leagues here in Europe play in a tournament called the Continental Cup.  It's sort of the IIHF's way of determining who is just out right the best team in all of Europe. Last year while playing for Sonderjyske in Denmark, Matt and his team took the trip to (none other than) Asiago for the first round of the tournament. They won this round and headed to Belarus for the Super Final where they placed 3rd. Not bad.

Asiago won their league again last year and so Matt was able to go to (seriously) Denmark this past weekend for the first round of this year's Continental Cup. Pretty stinky that he didn't get a totally new country on his list for this tournament but it's okay.

This means that I have been left all alone for 6 days now and he doesn't return again until tomorrow evening. I wanted to make the most of this time, not just sit around the house sulking that my husband is gone. Actually, I don't ever do that. I sleep diagonal in bed, but in his spot (hahaa) and Lucy gets her own spot and pillow. I also get to watch whatever shows/movies I want while he's away. Cook whatever I want, clean and have it actually stay clean, sleep in until whenever and have plenty of girls nights!

I was pretty lucky that I got to spend Thanksgiving with some great people. It wasn't exactly a typical Thanksgiving, but it was awesome! I even got to decorate a bit for Christmas. We wanted to do something awesome while the boys were away too so that resulted in a girls TRIP!

Friday morning we set off for Ljubljana, Slovenia! {Pronounce that sucker: Loo-bee-yana} We met up with some girls from the team there, had some Thai food for dinner, headed out to the bar for the night and had an awesome time!
At TOP bar!
Saturday we woke up and decided to set out on the town and see everything we could. We grabbed some McDonald's, shopped the five story H&M, and headed up to the Ljubljana Castle. My camera died there but I got a few good ones before it did.
I tried some Slovenian beer:
Saw a movie in ENGLISH!
We even found ourselves a City Park, where I bought some avocados, sriracha, sweet and sour sauce, Toffifee, and a surprise for Matthew! I'd say it was a successful trip. Until we get a fine for 150 euro because we forgot to get a highway toll pass. Oops!

It was an awesome girls trip, that's for sure. We returned late Saturday night and decided we wanted to keep the eventful weekend going by having a legitimate Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday! We ordered a 15 pound turkey, made appetizers, stuffing, mashed potatoes, carrots and pumpkin pie!

We actually had to pluck the turkey a bit, clean it, gut it, and all that fun stuff before we could cook it. Tina the Turkey was quite gross but it had to be done. Along the way I may or may not have played with her a bit.
Here Tina tries to fly away..
I also may have said something along the lines of feeling like a gynecologist and got my picture taken for that but that one isn't available for viewing. Sorry, folks. Here's how Thanksgiving turned out:
It was delicious! Last night was also the final game of the Continental Cup. We were lucky to find a live game sheet to watch after dinner while we sipped some Brulé alla Mela! And guess what! THEY WON!!
Guess where the Super Finals are this year: Rouen, France. Just one and a half hours away from Paris! I'm thinking a few days in Paris then head up to watch the tournament. What do you think?

Happy Thanksgiving Mi Amigos!

Did you know they don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Italy?
That was a joke. You do know that, right? I'm not an idiot. I swear. :o)

I hope you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving and you get to spend it with some awesome people. Unfortunately I didn't get to spend today with any of my family or my husband so that was kind of crappy. But I got to be with some good friends and Lucy was being super cute all day long. Which is always a plus. In fact she's half laying on my computer as I type this. It's bed time here.

Now I know turkey is the Thanksgiving staple, along with stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, and I'm sure a whole bunch of other things, that are just going to make my mouth water and not accomplish anything other than lending to the length of this sentence, but I didn't have any of that. We may have a belated Thanksgiving on Sunday, but I'm not sure? We'll see how the schedule goes. We're very busy around here.

So instead we spent our Thanksgiving another way. Immortalizing another culture by way of food. Mexico, you deserve a round of applause.
Thanksgiving Fajitas!
Today was so un-Thanksgiving-like that I decided to put up some Christmas decorations as well. Normally this waits until at least the day after but I had nothing to do today. So why not? Plus I'm going on a little girls trip tomorrow. Can't be bothered with decorating when I have Slovenia to see!!
Love covering up that TV.
Our hutch. Yes, that's an old banana and a kiwi. Not exactly Christmas fruit. Maybe next time!

Go Big or Be Prepared For Breakage

In December of last year I left Denmark to head home for my brother's wedding. I missed my cat, Matt, and the team's Christmas party. Not to say that it wasn't for a good reason, obviously, but it sucks being away sometimes.

Since I was gone, and it was so close to Christmas, I got to go on a few little shopping trips with my mom. This definitely lifted my spirits. Anytime I go shopping I feel better. Retail therapy is dead on.

I wanted to treat myself to a new purse because the one I had been carrying was already about 5 years old. Not that that's a bad thing. I firmly believe in spending a little extra for a bag that you can wear forever. Or a scarf you can wear forever, or boots, or a coat, or really this list could go on and on. Because yes, classic style and quality beat a cheap price any day.

Problem. I didn't find anything I wanted. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Niente. So I settled, for the first time since I was a pre-teen, on a cheaper bag just for the sake of getting something. Well, that decision bit me in the ass twice in the last two weeks.

While walking down the street in Barcelona my larger strap came off in a pristine fashion. Right from the seam, and it swung just perfectly to land at my feet. I immediately screamed THIEF! But there was no one else around. Just my cheap bag that was now strapless.

At the last home game I went to go zip up the piece of crap so thieves could not steal my awesome fingerless gloves and the zipper just kept going. Right off the track and into the palm of my hand. There was no saving it. The purse has died.
I'm sure, by now, you have figured out what all of this means. It means an awesome Christmas for me this year. It means lots of shopping coming up. It means a full blown awesome Italian purse. Or possibly French born, Italian made? British born? Okay, basically what I'm trying to say is that I'm going designer and I'm not coming back.

So far, my top choices are as follows:
Louis Vuitton Neverfull (any size)
Burberry - love the Nova Check
Marc by Marc Jacobs
These are just a few of the great choices I have. Let's be honest though, Italy has so much more than just these designers, so I may end up with something completely different. All I know is that I'm doing it. I'm going big because otherwise I'll end up screaming at an imaginary thief again and in turn look like a complete moron. Again.

Taylor Swift takes three at American Music Awards

Taylor Swift and Adele tied with three wins at the American Music Awards, but the event belonged to the country superstar after she beat the soulful crooner, as well as Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Lil Wayne, to win artist of the year, the ceremony’s highest accolade, which the 21-year-old singer-songwriter previously claimed in 2009.

“This is so crazy,” beamed Swift, who also picked up the trophies for favorite country female artist and favorite country album for “Speak Now.”

Adele had been the night’s leading nominee with four bids, but the soulful singer didn’t have much of a presence during the show: She was absent from the ceremony because she is recovering from throat surgery.

Adele tied Swift with three awards, nabbing favorite pop/rock female artist, adult contemporary artist and pop/rock album for “21.”

Other winners included Maroon 5 as favorite pop-rock band/duo/group, Beyonce as favorite soul/R&B female artist, Bruno Mars as pop/rock male artist, Foo Fighters as favorite alternative rock artist, Rihanna for favorite soul/R&B album for “Loud,” Hot Chelle Rae as new artist of the year and Lady Antebellum as favorite country band/duo/group.

“We thank you very much for an incredible year,” Lady A singer Charles Kelley told fans.

Nicki Minaj kicked off the 39th annual fan-favorite ceremony with an over-the-top performance that featured the pink-loving singer sporting a pair of speakers on her much-talked about derriere. She later earned two trophies: favorite rap/hip-hop artist, besting a group that included mentor Lil Wayne, and favorite rap/hip-hop album for “Pink Friday.” “Chase your dreams,” the pink-haired Minaj encouraged the audience. “I never thought this could be possible.”

The sprawling three-hour ceremony inside the Nokia Theatre in an unusually rainy Los Angeles was drenched with musical performances, including Justin Bieber getting into the holiday spirit amid a forest of neon lights with “Under the Mistletoe,” and Kelly Clarkson channeling the big-band era with a swinging rendition of “Mr. Know It All.”

Several artists delivered stripped-down performances: The Band Perry crooned an emotional “If I Die Young,” a subdued Katy Perry accompanied herself on guitar for “The One That Got Away” and a platinum-blonde Chris Brown simply sang “All Back” before being joined by a troop of helmet-clad back-up dancers for a flashy interpretation of “Say It With Me.”

Jennifer Lopez performed essentially a live version of the car commercial starring the “American Idol” judge set to her groove “Papi” – complete with a revolving car onstage – before launching into her dance hit “On the Floor.” She was joined by rapper Pitbull, who later returned to the stage for the sexually charged “Rain Over Me” with Marc Anthony.

“I want to thank God because it’s been a really amazing year in so many ways,” said Lopez, who announced earlier this year with Anthony that they were ending their seven-year marriage, after winning the favorite Latin music artist award. “It’s been up and down and just exciting and overwhelming and so many things. I’m just grateful for all my blessings.”

Lopez later appeared with a glowing-in-the-dark will.i.am for his new single “Hard.” Other collaborations included Christina Aguilera dueting with Maroon 5 on “Moves Like Jagger” and Bieber dancing with LMFAO in animal-print pants for a finale that ended with everyone on stage – including David Hasselhoff but not Bieber – stripping down to smiley-face underwear.

Jennifer Lopez and new toyboy get raunchy on stage - in front of her ex Marc Anthony

FLAUNTING her famous curves in a skintight glittery bodystocking, Jennifer Lopez showed off her toyboy Casper Smart to the world this weekend.

The Latin lovely, 42, delighted fans at the American Music Awards by dancing with tattooed Casper, 24, in her raunchy routine.

t’s been only five months since JLo’s seven-year marriage to Marc Anthony broke down and, amazingly, he was in the audience watching her rap with Pitbull and grind with her new lover.

After the show the American Idol judge and her handsome boy toy – who she’s been dating for a few weeks – headed for a not-so-private booth at the after-party where she treated him to a special lapdance before they headed off into the night.

What a performance.

Create Yourself

You have two free days coming up -- from work and all the crap that goes along with it. What will you do with it?

I've made the decisions lately to be invested in myself. That means I run, do yoga, lift, and stretch a lot. Fruits and vegetables are the new staples in my diet, and tea has taken a big leap  in the favorite beverages category. I feel good about what I'm doing with my body ...

... and my mind. I got a Kindle this year and I've already blown through four books since coming to Italy. That's two books a month and I'm already halfway through The Help and The Kind Diet is slowly, but surely, being read bit by bit. There are even three more books just waiting to be cracked open.

My Italian is also getting better as the days go by. It's nice to have people to speak with in English while I'm here but I would love to spend a little more time learning Italian. It's a beautiful language and I'd feel like I accomplished something awesome if I could really learn it. {Plus I could check off a 30 before 30!}

I've also been doing a little more work lately than usual. It's nothing to write home about but I like working. I feel like I'm doing something good, especially since a lot of it involves Movember. I love doing this to bring awareness for men's health. Movember is a great thing, ladies. Check it out and do a little something for your man's future!
