Amy Winehouse Scores Best-Selling Album of the Century With 'Back to Black'

Roughly a month after her shocking death, Amy Winehouse claimed a posthumous record. Her second studio album "Back to Black" was named the biggest selling album of the 21st century in the U.K. by the Official Chart Company which tracks the sales of music in the country.

Winehouse snatched the accolade from previous record holder James Blunt. The "You're Beautiful" hitmaker got the title with his 2005's debut album "Back to Bedlam" which sold around 3,259,100 copies so far, but the "Rehab" singer surpassed it by garnering 3,241,118 copies of "Back to Black".

Amy rose to the top spot on the U.K. album chart since her passing last July. She even denied Kanye West and Jay-Z the No. 1 place last week. She remained at the penthouse of the weekly rundown for several weeks before finally being pushed down from its throne by Nero this week. She is currently sitting at No. 3 behind Adele.

Beside making a huge jump in the U.K. chart with the 2006 sophomore set, the late singer had also broken the top 10 on Billboard Hot 200. Keith Caulfield, associate director of Billboard charts, told E! Online, "A lot of it has to do with people just discovering who an artist is. It's an ironic twist that many people don't learn of an artist until that artist passes away."

Amy Winehouse is going to be remembered this coming Sunday, August 28 at 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. She will be saluted by her "Body and Soul" duet partner Tony Bennett. "It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse," the music vet said. "And when you listen to the recording of 'Body and Soul', it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest musicians I have ever known."
