Negativity

Negativity is like a disease. You can catch it from others. Persistent anger, sadness, jealousy, or envy is just not conducive to living a happy and healthy life. But no matter how positive you are, you can (and will) come across negative individuals. These people, if they become close to you, can bring some of their negativity into your life.

My mother is negative.

She always found little ways to tear me down. If I had good news, or was happy about something, she would always seem dubious about it's authenticity, or indicated in some way that it wouldn't last. She rarely had a kind word to say about anybody, yet was always worried about their opinion of her. She wasn't a mean person by any means. She seemed to have trouble in seeing the positive about anyone or anything. It was hard growing up with a parent like that. My father was the epitome of neutral, and rarely gave his opinion on anything. I grew up with what seemed like a black cloud over my head. Once I moved out of my parents' house, I began to see the truth.

My first real love (Millie) was also negative.

When things were going good for us, and we were getting along, she would get afraid of being too close. She would purposely mess up our relationship. She was afraid I would hurt her, although I never did. She stood me up more times than I could count, and it was a toss-up if she would call when she said she would. At one point, we stayed overnight at a motel, to get one night of togetherness. (We both lived with our parents at the time, and hers did their best to keep a close eye on her. No, we were both in our early 20's.) She ended up abandoning me there. When I was asleep, she snuck out. Upon hearing the door close, I woke up. I ran after her car with no shoes on, begging her not to leave. I ended up stepping in glass, cutting my feet. I then realized that I had left the keys in the motel room! Oh, fun. I tried and tried with her, trying to make it work, because I really loved her. In hindsight, I may have been too forgiving. She found me years after we broke up (she just disappeared on me for a month), and apologized for the way she had treated me. She was so afraid that I would hurt her in some way, but the only hurtful one in the relationship was her.

I had a coworker who was negative.

This lady was perpetually unhappy. She had been fired from so many employers in our field, but for some reason, my employer hired her anyway. She tried to tear me down for eight long years. They eventually made me the shift supervisor, to her endless chagrin. She tried to get me in trouble, tried to get me to quit, and tried to get other coworkers against me. I wasn't the only one she had a problem with, oh no. But I did seem to be her main target, since I was in charge of her, yet she was better at her job than I was (coughnotreallycough), and she had seniority (technically true, but it meant very little in her case). There was one point where she was criticizing, no... insulting her husband, calling him a dirtbag or a scumbag, and that he only cared about himself. He had gone into a diabetic coma and was in the hospital. He died right around the time she was saying these things about him. She broke down crying, saying, "And I said all those things to him, and about him, and then he died!" I thought maybe that would've changed her attitude right then and there. Poor guy. A few days later, she was back to her usual tirades and schemes.

And then I ended up marrying someone who was (is) very negative.

At first, she didn't seem that way (and neither did Millie, now that I think of it). She just seemed... damaged. And by golly, it was me who was going to fix her and make her happy again! Yeah, right. She would actually say that hate causes CANCER. That's right, not that hate *is* a cancer, but it'll make you get cancer. Yet, let's see... she hates me, she hates Nikki, she hates my mother, she hates my brother and sister, she hates anyone LGBT, and she hates anyone who is not a Christian. That's just for starters. When she's upset, she tries to upset others. "Misery loves company" should be her motto. She won't let my daughter talk to me. It's been three years since I've heard her voice.

And now...?

Today, I am mostly free from negative people and situations. Not all of us are so lucky. Keep in mind that by no means is everything butterflies and daffodils. Life is life. To even talk about the people above, can be considered a negative thing in itself.

But to ruled over by sadness, anger, or depression, is just harmful to the soul, the body, everything.

Notice that I did say "mostly." There is someone who is having a negative impact on us and our family. I harbor no ill will towards this person, but I wish and pray to the God and Goddess that this person would just stop. I believe this friend is mostly a positive person, and I don't think they realize what a negative impact they're having on this household.

Largely because of this person, Nikki and I argue. Yes, sometimes it's in front of the kids, or they overhear it. That makes me sad, but I will admit I act in a brash manner when I get upset, and then I regret it later. Yes, we have our problems, and no, it is not only because of this friend. But they exacerbate the problems, and rub salt in the wounds.

Let us work it out. Let us be in harmony, love, and peace again. I know you're mad at me, but let it be. Be a friend without causing all this chaos. You think you're being positive, but the end result of your actions is:

Negativity.

I Made a Vlog!

Yes, it's true! I think it may be a bit boring to watch, and unfortunately, the camera we have is not the greatest. And wow... is my voice that low? I think I could get it a bit higher. My voice tends to get lower when I feel "on the spot." When being on camera is more of a natural thing for me, I think my voice could be free to be higher... I hope.

Anyway, watch this, and then go over to my YouTube channel and subscribe, leave a comment, what-have-you. Thanks!

Classroom Homophobia

I believe that Nikki is working with a homophobic teacher. She works as a teacher aide in a classroom for children with special needs. The school had some trouble with the teacher she used to work with. That teacher was totally incompetent. She was replaced, but Nikki was sent to a different classroom, and a different teacher. She was glad that the idiot teacher was gone, but sad to be moved away from two other aides who she had become friends with. She is completely "out" at that school, and her friends had no problem with her orientation at all, nor does the principal.

This new teacher seemed much easier to work with at first. However, if Nikki would mention me (usually in passing), she or the aide would give her a funny look. Like a rolling-eyes kind of look. Nikki really didn't feel all that comfortable in this new room, but she had to make the best of it.

A few weeks before Christmas, I arrived at the school to pick up Nikki. (We only have one car, and I had an appointment that day, so I took the car.) She wanted the kids to come in and see the classroom and meet the teacher and the aide. I came with them. Everything seemed fine, and we only stayed for a fer minutes. (The teacher is real cutie, hehe!)  But... immediately following that, Nikki started having trouble with the teacher.

The teacher would tell her to do something, then tell her not to do it the next day. She would want things done a specific way, but when Nikki would try to anticipate for this and ask questions, she would get, "I can't tell you exactly what to do every minute of the day!" She would complain to Nikki that Nikki has no rapport and is not close with the kids. The children in that class don't trust anyone new.

Some of these kids go to different classes for certain activities. Nikki was told to go with the kids and help the teachers in those classrooms out, like if they needed help with a badly behaved student. The teacher soon told her that the teachers were complaining about her. She claimed they told her that Nikki was "interrupting the class" and so forth. Nikki would merely be standing by a wall, not saying a word. My sweetie is not the interrupting type. She's really quiet and unassuming, except around those she knows and is comfortable with.

Nikki asked all the teachers if they had any problem with her, and if she was interrupting in any way when she would bring a student into their classroom. They said that no, she wasn't... and had only nice things to say to her. Either they're not being honest, or the teacher that Nikki works with is lying.

There have been other scenarios, but I won't go into them all. Suffice to say, they are all BS. Because of this teacher's reactions from before she met me, and then the way everything started hitting the fan right after she met me... I'm claiming shenanigans. This is homophobia, pure and simple. (Possibly transphobia, if she somehow clocked me as being born male.) She's trying to get Nikki out of her classroom. She even went so far as to suggest to Nikki that she might want to find employment in another school, namely elementary. True, Nikki would rather work in elementary than in a middle school, since that's where her education is, but it's not hard to see where this teacher's true motivations are.

Nikki is really worried about having her reputation tarnished. If she's wrongly accused of not being able to follow instructions, or interfering with other classrooms, that might go on her employment record, and endanger the possibility of her finally having her own special ed class. This has been Nikki's goal for as long as she can remember, and to have it ruined by one homophobic ass would be beyond heartbreaking.

Nikki had an appointment with the principal just this past Monday. She said that Nikki stomps around grumpily, and doesn't interact with the students or faculty. Huh? She says "good morning" to any staff member she sees, and the teacher won't even answer her most of the time. She's also always helping the other students with their work or whatever else they need help with. Nikki is not the most outgoing person out there (and neither am I), but doesn't act grumpy at work.

I'm just hoping and praying that she gets through the next four months okay. Then she can go on to do her internship at another school, and possibly have her own classroom. My baby deserves better than this.

2010 in Review

A few recent blogs have featured a "year in review," so I figured I'd adopt the idea for myself. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, after all.

In January, our daughters had a sleepover, I experienced some breast growth due to progesterone meds, and Nikki broke a rib (ow!).

In February, we ate at Red Lobster, I started going to therapy at no charge, and we started thinking about moving to Arizona.

In March, I (sort of) completed my own Interactive Fiction game, I had a talk with my mother after a long absence, and I got very sick.

In April, we had our apartment in Arizona approved, and I colored my hair redder than ever before.

In May, I got my Phoenix tattoo, Skylar chopped her hair off with a pair of scissors, some of our animals passed away, we said goodbye to family, and we headed off to Arizona!

In June, we moved into our new apartment!

In July, I didn't blog at all since we were so busy with the kids, and fixing up the apartment.

In August, Nikki got a job, we met trans-kid Rachel (among other people), I got my Arizona driver license with no problem at all, and school started for the kids, and I got some exercise pulling a wagon six miles a day.

In September, we had to replace the wagon already!

In October, I got a green iguana, one of our rats gave birth unexpectedly, and my mother sent me an upsetting letter.

In November, Nikki and I celebrated our four-year anniversary, the Transgender Day of Remembrance saw it's twelfth year, and I got free shoes!

In December, we went geocaching for the first time, my breasts started to grow again (!), Sarah got a girlfriend (!!!), and we celebrated the holidays.

Here's looking ahead to 2011! I hope everyone has a fantastic year!

Snippets

I went to the eye doctor the other day, that one in Wal-Mart. I have a pair of very old glasses (from The Before Time, so they're not all pretty or anything) that are bent and not my prescription anymore. That's okay, because I hate wearing glasses and I only wear them around the house and such. So yes, I wear contacts... and I'm on my last pair. They are getting a pair of free samples in about two weeks to hold me over until I can purchase some amount of contacts.

Skylar says, 'imagigation' instead of 'imagination.' Imagi-gay-tion. I like it. Someone should give their LGBT blog or organization (organi-gay-tion?) a name like that. That would rock.

Christmas shopping is just about done. We didn't get that much for the girls, but they'll get other things from their family in New York (semi-useless but hey it's something). We're really short on funds and high on expenses lately. Thank goodness the electric bill went down to $138 because we're really not using the air conditioner anymore. That's still pretty high though. Geez.

I've been playing a lot of Return to Castle Wolfenstein lately. Well, not a lot compared to a gaming enthusiast or anything. I play every two or three days because I'm so busy with other things. Anyway, it's great fun. Your basic shoot-em-up game. Blow the hell out of Nazis, and then all of a sudden, they bring these undead things back to life. The game totally changes into scary mode after that. Then it's back to Nazis. Hmmm.

We went geocaching again (see here for our first two times). We didn't go to as many or for as long a time as I wanted. Nikki was tired, and so was Skylar. Oh well. Maybe we'll do better next weekend. I'll write about it in more detail in my next post.

A friend of mine (granted, Facebook friend but maybe soon more of a real life friend) is going to try to start a non-profit insurance company of sorts for transfolk seeking GRS. You would pay a certain amount per month and then a deductible, and the company would pay for the rest of the surgery. Naturally, there would be guidelines to follow, and only reputable doctors would be covered. To anyone reading this, what do you think? Is this feasible? What would be some pitfalls and complications, besides getting all the money together for this?

My feelings of depression are directly linked to the cold. It got cold a couple weeks ago (thirties in the morning, and fifties in the afternoon), and I had a few bouts of depression. Ugh, it sucks to suddenly feel so down. For the last five days or so, we've been getting a bit of a heat wave for December (a warm wave?). Now that's it's been upper forties in the morning, and mid to upper seventies in the afternoon, I've been feeling just fine. I guess Arizona is really good for me.

I'm sure many of you bloggers have gotten junk mail from Goofle AdWords. They'll give you $100 of free advertising. You only pay when someone clicks on your ad and goes to your site. Well, I set everything up, and made sure that we would not be going over the $100. Naturally, I made an ad for my blog. However, it's been a week and the ad is still "under review." Figures.

I talked to my dad the other day. He thinks I should get a construction job or go dig ditches. "They're always looking for people to dig ditches." Yeah, that would be a great environment for me. Throw a girly transwoman in with a bunch of macho men. If they didn't figure out I was born male, I'd still be in danger for being the only soft, curvy thing there. No thanks. Dad needs a reality check.

Oh, my boobs are sore... again! It's been over seven years since I started hormones. They're still growing! Is that unheard of or what? I'm not sure. But I'm pretty thrilled about it. They're all sore and warm. Awesome! In following tradition, we need another nice picture of cleavage.

I got a haircut over the weekend. I really love it! My hair can't be too long or I end up yanking it all out. Well, not all of it (!!!), but you know. It's now just under my shoulder and I have respectable bangs again. Yay!

That's it for today. Stay tuned for another geocaching report!

Letter From Mom

For those who don't know, my mother still doesn't accept the fact that I'm a transsexual. It's been over seven years now, and she seems no closer to coming around than she did then. She still calls me by my old male name, though she knows it was changed a few years back. She refuses to even write the name in correspondence.

Below is a letter that I received late last week. I'm going to write it here, then write my reply, and type it in here too. A lot of the things she states she heard is just untrue. Someone is exaggerating. Anyway, here's her letter to me.

X (male name deleted),

Last week, Dad took Grandma back to Nebraska to see her sister and nieces. He had a good time until his cousins and aunt confronted him about your letters to them. Supposedly, you told them that we had thrown you out and disowned you. I guess you had a few especially nasty things to say about me. I really didn't think it was possible to break my heart anymore than it is. This is your decision to pursue this kind of life. Life is so hard already, and you're only making it harder on yourself. You can't deny that you're making yourself unhireable. An employer has more than enough issues with employees without taking on the burden of hiring a transvestite.

You are so positive that you're doing the right thing, but I really worry about what will become of you. We won't be around forever, and Dan and Laura are really not inclined to help support you. They have their own families and problems. You have taken their brother away, as you have taken my son away. This is your own choice, you don't ask your 93 year old grandmother to finance a sex change. Even if she could, she wouldn't do it. It goes against everything she has lived her life believing.

Please stop sending pictures and trying to force a relationship with these people. They are embarrassed and feel badly for us. I don't know how to make you see this. They are all parents and know how we must feel. All parents want their children to be happy, but your lifestyle is just really hard to get past. Each person's sexuality is a very private thing, and really should be of no interest to others. You're trying to force people into acceptance but that can't work. They don't wish you ill, but at the same time they don't want or have an interest in this. I know I can't make you see the effect you're having, because this is the life you've chosen for yourself, and you've convinced yourself it's right. But this is your own life, and these decisions are yours. You can't change how people think.

I can only hope that you can find people that feel the same way that you do, so you're not alone. You have to have something of your own to fit your life. We can't fit because this is just too much to get past. Because you are our son, it's really so very very hard. It is the heart break of our lives, because we literally don't know how you'll end up, and how you'll support yourself. I have a hard time seeing a good future, you have no job, no insurance, no prospects, no retirement, and no savings. You can't live in a bubble, you have to fit in the world as it exists and not how you want it to be. I don't know how to make you see what's right there. This is your life right now, there is no second chance. You only get to do it once, and when you look back, it's really such a short time. I don't know if I've given you anything to think about, but I'll never stop hoping that I have.

Ma

*sigh*

Dear Mom,

I was very surprised at what you told me in the beginning of your letter. I have never said you kicked me out or disowned me. You took me in for several months when Vanessa was about to sell her house, and after Nikki and the kids went into the safe house. I had no money, and you and Dad took me in and fed me, rent free. Then I chose to move to Michigan with Nikki and the kids. These people (who I don't know and have never talked to) misunderstood, or were exaggerating. The only people I've conversed with on Dad's side of the family, are Grandma, Candice (though not for many months), and Deanna (once, about a year ago). All I told them is that you don't accept or understand why I made the change that I did. I don't know Dad's cousins, and unless it's Aunt Edna, I don't know the aunt of his that you mentioned either. I'm very sorry that they upset you and Dad, but I never told anybody what they claim.

The work situation is an issue that I've been struggling with for years. Yes, there is a stigma attached to being a transsexual, and it's something I have to deal with. Like you said, I didn't make this world, and I have to deal with it and get by as best as I can. Also, I am not a transvestite. A transvestite is someone who dresses in clothing of the opposite sex, and acts in that role, and they later return to their lives and act as their born gender. They typically don't change their name or consider surgery. Transsexuals (note that I have mixed feelings on this term, as many focus on the last three syllables and see it to be a 'sexual' thing) usually take hormones, change their name, and some seek surgery.

Please believe me when I tell you that I have never asked Grandma for money for gender reassignment surgery. I did mention that I wanted it, but had no money, and that was that. Also, please realize that Grandma does accept what I'm doing and who I am. No, I don't think she is any better than you are in any way. I don't know how or why she can accept when others can't. Everyone's different, I suppose.

Yes, I'm no longer representative of any form of son or brother. I can't imagine what such a loss must feel like. I won't apologize for being who I am, but I am sorry for your pain, as well as for the rest of the family. To grieve is natural. I have changed in so many ways. My friend Chris took it hard for many years. Yet, Steve and Daria got through it after a brief adjustment period. Everyone is different, and everyone feels things differently.

As far as sexuality being a private thing, this doesn't apply here (apart from me and Nikki's relationship). This is about gender. I am living the life of a different gender than I used to. The way I feel inside never matched the way I look on the outside. I've felt this way for as far back as I can remember. I was always afraid to say so. Afraid of being ridiculed by other kids, afraid of being punished as a child for acting in a way I shouldn't. Gender is a very public thing. There are males and there are females. They are (usually) very easy to tell apart. I was not happy living in the male gender role. I always felt different inside. I went in and out of depression since high school, until my separation with Christina. It took me so long to put two and two together, and to see that transsexuals are not freakish people. They are not like Rupaul, or like that character on The Rocky Horror Picture Show. They live day to day lives, and you've probably seen some of them and never thought a thing about them. The same way that people may look my way on the street when I'm walking the kids to school, or in a store shopping, and then look away. I've always been rather slim and short, and never had rugged facial features. That really helps me now. I would really love to have a job. Things go fine until they do a background check. Someday, I'll find a more open-minded employer.

I do have insurance at this point, though it's from the state. When Nikki and I finally get married, I could be on her insurance. She's very close to having a regular teaching position, since they're going to be firing the teacher in her classroom. They want Nikki to teach the class. So she'll soon be making a lot more money. As for me, I've been writing a lot lately, and I want to see if I can get a novel published. I've also considered starting my own business, fixing computers and such.

I do have quite a few good friends here. Some are transsexual, but many aren't. I know three mothers of transsexual children. Rachel and Josie are both nine years old, and Emerson is twelve. Josie is home-schooled, since their local school has a problem with her attending class as a girl, but the other two are able to go to school. They have all been saying they're a girl (and Emerson insisting he's a boy) since they could speak. This was unheard of ten years ago, but kids like this were always around. The world is slowly changing. When I was younger, there was barely any media coverage on transsexuality. Now there are specials on The Discovery Channel, and The Learning Channel, as well as episodes of The Tyra Banks Show and others. Many people will never accept or understand, but many others do. There are many crusaders (trans or not) of the rights of transsexuals. I don't wish to be one of them, though I applaud their efforts. I merely wish to live my life as the gender I feel inside. The ENDA (Employment Non-Discrimination Act) in Tucson prohibits employers from discriminating on the basis of gender identity. Previously, it only included race, ethnicity, religion, et al. (Though many employers can find another "reason" for firing (or not hiring) anyway.) Things change, albeit slowly.

As far as choice, I didn't choose this. Other than a choice to be happy or not, there is no choice. This is who I am inside. I can be me, or live a lie. I can live as a woman, or fight depression and anxiety for the rest of my life. Besides being without a job, I am happy. I love Nikki, I love our family, and I love my home and my friends. I'm so much more in touch with my feelings than I was before. Grandma said when she saw me a year ago, that she had never seen me talk so much or seem so happy. I am, very much so. I'm comfortable and at ease with myself. I'm living my life authentically. Like you said, there's no second chance in life. If I tried to be who everyone wants me to be, I would only live my life with regret and sadness.

I truly love you and Dad, my brother and sister, and grandparents, aunts and uncles. I can feel that so much more. And I feel so sad that so many of you cannot accept who I am. But just as I have no choice but to be who I am, you (all of you) have no choice but to feel the way you feel about it. Maybe someday, you'll see that I'm still here. I have the same interests, the same values, and the same wacky sense of humor. My gender is all that's changed. But yes, that is an awfully big change. I wish I could put an end to my family's pain, disappointment, and heartbreak. The only way for me to that would be to return to living a lie, the act that I had to play for so many years... and that would be so unhealthy for me. 'Devastating' would not even be a fitting word.

I love you, Ma. I love you all.

Love,

Amy

Last Stand in Tucson

I struggle to stay positive.
I struggle to have hope.
I struggle to not let despair overcome me.
I struggle to not let self-doubt petrify me.
I struggle to find a solution, amidst all the struggling.

I was going to post the above as a Facebook status. but I decided to just put it here.

I still don't have a job.

I have gotten three speeding tickets since I got here, two months ago. (I got one in all of three years in Michigan, and my last speeding ticket prior to that was in 1993. What is it about Tucson and the strict speeding enforcement?)

Our rent is about two weeks late now, with not a dime towards it.

Nikki has found work, but as a teacher's aide, not a teacher. She's very unhappy with the whole thing.

We've had so many problems with our relationship lately. I almost packed and walked twice, and she says every day how she doesn't want to live here, or that she's moving out of Arizona.

I'm trying so hard not to give in to negativity. If I lose hope and think that all is lost, I'll sink into a deep depression and I'll be of no use to anyone -  my family, and myself. The future is not written in stone. Things may be bad now, but they may not always be. I refuse to give up... or give in.

One way or another, this is my last stand. I left New York and moved to Michigan to find a better home with Nikki and the kids. It was less than ideal, to put it mildly. We came here for the same reason. I do love the weather and the people here (it's been a long time since I've had so many awesome friends!), but it's just been hardship after hardship. I'm not going back to Michigan. I'm not going back to New York. Nikki may leave, but I just can't follow her this time.

I'm not going to run from my problems anymore. My problems and I are going to settle this once and for all.

This is my last stand.

I'm Baaaa-ack!

Hmmm, where do I start? It's been a month and a half since I last posted. Why, do you ask? It's been hard for me to settle down to a routine since moving to Arizona. That, and we used to have two computers running. We still have the other computer, but we need a desk and a new mouse. The mouse won't click, and the desk is back in Michigan. (There were quite a few things we just couldn't fit in the truck.)

Since my last post, we've had good times and bad times. Maybe I should get the bad news out of the way. Our car was majorly messed up. First there was some problem with something attached to the axel. (Cars are beyond me...) Then we had a problem with the brakes. They tried to fix it, but the parts were all rusted, and everything just crumbled and fell off! That cost over $400.

Savannah's birthday was on July 30th. We invited a whole bunch of people. Everyone canceled except for Liz. Thanks so much for coming, Liz! That, and it was raining the whole time. So much for a pool party. But Savannah thanked us for giving her the best birthday party ever. I love that kid!

Last Monday, I got pulled over for speeding. The speed limit changed from 40 MPH to 30 MPH along Broadway, unbeknown to me, and I got pulled over soon after for going 43. And little did I know, my Michigan license was suspended for an unpaid ticket I got up there, right before we moved. (You can read about that here.) Yes, my mail from Michigan is forwarded. No, I got no notice of this suspension. The car's registration had expired on July 1st, only a month before we were stopped. I was expecting to get arrested. I wasn't (thank goodness!), but the car was impounded. So we've been without a car for another five days. One way or another, we always seem to be denied it's usage. We walked down to the DMV a few days ago. We came back hot and exhausted. Walking four miles in this heat is not fun! Nikki got the car registered, and as I type this, she's going to get it out of the impound. I just paid the Michigan ticket online, to the tune of $598. Nikki is paying the impound and the tow trucking company now. Just the taxi fare for going back and forth will be over $100. We're not made of money. In fact, we barely have enough to survive. I just don't know how much more we can take until we end up on the street or something.

I haven't gotten a job yet, but Nikki has. She's going to be a teacher aide, working one on one with some problematic child that they have there. Hopefully he won't be violent. She's really disappointed, since she wants her own classroom. After attending college for six years in New York, and substituting for three years in Michigan... well, I think she's done enough, and she should be allowed to teach now.

Reliving all the bad events above has made me quite incapable of writing about any good times. They were there, believe me. It just seems hard to believe that more good times will be coming, not with the cards stacked against us everywhere we turn. I don't want to end on a bad note, so here are a few pics from the Tucson Botanical Gardens. We had a good time there, and there were many interesting things to see.

"Mama, how do you get this thing out of first gear?"

This is a pineapple cactus, so named because of the little pineapple-shaped fruits that appear on top during the hot summer months. I found out that they're sweet and safe to eat, now I just need to try one.

It was very hot out, so hey this is one way to cool down.  ;)

"Honey, it's got me!!!"

It's us, the "Bad Luck Gang." At least we're all beautiful, huh?

Life in Michigan (Blast From the Past Entry)

This was written about a month and a half after we moved to Michigan. Things still seemed good at this point, or that they would become good. Little did I know, I would never obtain a job here, in almost three years of trying. I've worked all my life, from 1988 to 2007, with only two or three months between jobs at times.

It wasn't long after this entry that we started having problems with the neighbors (people pulling knives on each other right outside our door!), and that Nikki's mother started sending Child Protective Services (and the cops!) on us with made-up stories, like we have the kids go out in the snow with shorts and a t-shirt and no coat on. I mean, what???

This is the last of my old MySpace blogs. I do have some more "blasts from the pasts" though. We'll be going to back to 2002 to take another look at how all this started... "finding myself," that is.

Current mood: excited

Nikki just got a job! She's working for the school district out here. She actually just left for her first day, about an hour ago! I'm so proud of her! She'll be working this Wednesday through Friday as a substitute teacher for a high school special ed class. Yay!!! She's so nervous, but I really think she'll do fine.

This is my first blog since I moved to Michigan. Everyone is wondering how I'm doing here. I actually do like it here at my new home! I love our apartment, and the neighborhood is really similar to Long Island. Some will think that a good thing, and some will think that's not so good. For me, it's good because I've lived on Long Island all my life. I think I need a little familiarity. It wasn't easy just leaving my job(s) and my friends and just coming out here. But I'm really happy. I'm with the love of my life, and I'm free to be me!

Skylar (our youngest) lives with us. She's 16 months old. The two older ones are going to be joining us as of December 3rd. The court ordered that they go through some kind of "adjustment period." I can't see how that's going to work. They were ready to move out here with us. They would've been starting school in the fall like everyone else. Now they will be going to school in New York for three months, and then being uprooted to a new school in December. Well, when they do get here, all this crap will be over with.

I haven't been on any interviews yet, but I've applied at a lot of places. I can't find any computer/IT jobs out here, but there are more of them in Detroit. Detroit isn't that far for a commute, but I have to fix my car first. I'm having a problem with the brakes. I think the rotors need to be replaced. I have to watch Skylar for a few weeks anyway, until Nikki gets her first check. We have no money right now for daycare or a babysitter. I don't mind though. Skylar is so adorable, and I love her like she was my own.

We found an LGBT center about a half hour from us, called Affirmations. This place is really big. It has three floors, with a library. It's the largest center of it's kind in Michigan, and one of the 10 largest in the US. I feel rather lucky that we moved so close to it. They have so many support groups and events going on there.

Did I mention I love our apartment? I love our dishwasher! We bought a computer desk and an entertainment center at a thrift store for about $30 each! We got a bunkbed from Freecycle for the two older kids. We also picked up an artificial Christmas tree already. We have three months to work on ornaments and presents (LOL). Our place is really starting to look like a real apartment now. We just need the rest of our stuff from the storage unit in New York. We need $800 for that. Ugh.

Anyway, we're really happy here. It's like heaven to go to sleep next to my sweetheart and then wake up in the morning to see her beautiful face. I can't wait to hear how her day went! In the meantime, I'm going to see if I can get another hour or two of sleep. If I can even relax enough to fall asleep. I'm so excited and happy for my baby today!

Goodbye, New York... and... Grrrrr! (Blast From the Past Entry)

Yes, I haven't done a "blast from the past" in awhile. One might've thought that I'd run out of entries. Well, almost, and sort of. I only have one more MySpace entry after this one, but I've found a bunch of old looseleaf paper diary ones. Ones that I thought were missing forever. You see, I had typed them up into Word many years ago, thew away the original handwritten pages, and then forgot I ever did so. Ha! That's me for you.

Anyway, this entry is actually two in one. This was written less than a week before we left for Michigan. It's ironic, being reposted on the eve of our move to Arizona. I hope things will work out better than Michigan did! I'm reading back what I wrote, and I see that I had no idea what I was in for. So let's say I'm cautiously optimistic at this point. These entries also perfectly illustrate how crazy things were for Nikki and the kids back then. Thank goodness things are much more stable now. You'll see what I mean...

Goodbye, New York

Current mood: sick

Okay, I'm currently knocking on wood that Nikki's custody case goes well today. The odds are in her favor (okay, knocking on wood again!). If everything goes the way we want it to, we'll be leaving tomorrow afternoon for Michigan! Things didn't go the way we expected money-wise, so we can't get a U-Haul truck (or similar) just yet. $800 is quite an expense. We'll have to cram as much as we can into my car (which is just the trunk... we'll have two kids and a baby in the back seat). We will keep our things in storage like they have been, and save up for a truck.

I've come down with some sort of malady of late (okay, maybe I've been reading a lot of DragonLance, okay?). I'm not stuffed-up, I don't have a sore throat, I'm not nauseous (at least not yet)... I just ache all over. And I'm weak. I'm not looking forward to this 12-hour drive, even if Nikki and I will be swapping spots at the wheel. This is the third day I've been feeling like this, with no other symptoms. It makes me worry. What if I'm coming down with mono? Ugh.

I'm so excited to be leaving though! Away from my parents and Nikki's in-law's. We can finally make our own rules and to hell with them if they don't like it! (Can you tell I'm fed up with the way things have been going for... oh, the past half year?) The negative side of this is that I'll miss my friends. I have one friend who's decided to cut all contact with me. I'm not sure why this is, but I have a few ideas. It makes me sad though. There were a handful of others that I meant to get together with before I left, but money or time (or both!) just wouldn't permit. But I will be back to New York. After all, my stuff is here!

But this is farewell to New York. Farewell to Long Island. Farewell to my network tech job and farewell to my alarm company side job. Farewell to my friends... for now. Farewell to my family, unless they want to speak to me after knowing my "alternative lifestyle." Hello to my new life! I welcome it with open arms.

Grrrrr!

Current mood: sick

I spoke too soon. The court date has been postponed until Friday! My poor sweetheart has to go through this shit over and over again. This judge has to make a decision. How much longer can we wait in limbo like this? We have an apartment we don't live in, Nikki has a car she doesn't drive... and our kids are ready to go to Michigan. I heard her on the phone. Nikki said it's delayed until Friday, and I hear one of the girls in the background ask her, "Are we going to Michigan tomorrow?"

We're stuck here until the end of the week... at least. I already had my mail forwarded. I want out of here. I want them to stop bossing around my sweetie. I want the stress on her to end. I want us to get on with our lives. I want out of here!!!
