Simon Cowell Denies Calling Beyonce, Lady Gaga 'Boring'

Simon Cowell is conducting damage control following some insulting statements he allegedly made recently. The always outspoken "X Factor" judge reportedly said that Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and even Beyoncé lack the full-scale X factor that he's looking for on his Fox reality show.

So, what got Cowell into so much hot water? "If you only ever heard Lady Gaga, she's the most boring singer in the world," he reportedly told The Mirror. "You've got to see her — you need TV. Same with Beyoncé. Or Katy Perry. We're all about image. You have to have that X factor."

Well, he is now going on the record to let everyone know they've got it all wrong. "This was completely misreported. It's the complete opposite, in fact," Cowell's rep told RadarOnline.com. "Simon is a massive fan of both [Gaga and Beyoncé] and he always refers to them as amongst the artists he most admires. He thinks they are two of the most interesting, talented and relevant artists today."

Cowell himself said, "It's like they've all been bred to take over the world and dominate everything in entertainment. They are unbelievable, these girls."

Noticeably absent from the statement was Perry, but he was specific about why he thinks Gaga and Beyoncé are so great. Beyoncé's "the biggest star we've seen in 20 years; we're seeing sort of the rise of the super female pop star. It's like a different breed. Beyoncé has that," he said.

Gaga "has the X factor. She's smart ... [and] has real ambition. She is a total, utter star. ... You have to be open and embrace this level of expression. You hope to God that you can find someone like her," Cowell said.

"I think somebody like Lady Gaga defines exactly what we're looking for. She's both talented and interesting. She's worked it all out for herself. You never get the feeling somebody is controlling her. Lady Gaga is the most relevant pop artist in the world at the moment. I've met her. She is very smart. I like her," he added.

Holly Madison insures her two best friends for $1 million

Holly Madison, one of "The Girls Next Door" who now appears in a topless revue in Las Vegas, is putting her money where her moneymakers are: She has insured her breasts for $1 million with Lloyd's of London.

The "Peepshow" veteran, who also has film and TV credits for portraying characters including "Playboy Bunny," "Hot Blonde," "Self" and "Blonde #1," told People she'd heard about performers insuring body parts and figured, "Why not?"

"Because if anything happened to my boobs" -- her word, not ours -- "I'd be out for a few months and I'd probably be out a million dollars," she told the mag. "I thought I'd cover my assets."

Hey, that's one way to put yourself in the same league as Betty Grable and Angie Dickinson. Though those ladies insured their legs, which probably makes it not the same league in the slightest, beyond the fact that everyone involved possesses two legs, with Madison owning two insured assets of her own.

Alas, Madison's assets were made, not born: She surgically boosted her cup size in 2001 from an A to a D-plus, which is about the grade the Los Angeles Times' reviewer gave "Peepshow" back in April 2009. Madison joined the cast in May of that year.

Reed Johnson described "Peepshow" as "an intermittently amusing but utterly predictable and cliche-besotted soft-core revue" with "a tribute to pink that involves a male stooge, some light bondage, a bucket of paint and a crunching rock ditty" ranking among the show's more inspired numbers, musically.

Madison apparently took to Vegas from the get-go, however, reportedly becoming a fixture at charity events and on red carpets in short order. That's not to say she doesn't have room in her heart for a dive bar or two.

Meanwhile, the Ministry is insanely unhappy that our recent bout with accidental nudity happened on a Jennifer Aniston post, and not this one.

Michelle Obama shops incognito at Target

First lady Michelle Obama, wearing a hat and sunglasses, pushes a shopping cart as she carries her purchases at a Target department store in Alexandria, Va., Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, after doing some shopping.

AP photographer Charles Dharapak told CBS News he took pictures of the first lady at the Target on Route 1 in Alexandria, Virginia.

The first lady's office confirmed that the pictures showed Mrs. Obama, though it did not immediately respond when asked if it tipped off Dharapak.

"It is not uncommon for the First Lady to slip out to run an errand, eat at a local restaurant or otherwise enjoy the city outside the White House gates," said Kristina Schake, communications director for the First Lady.

In the photographs, the first lady is wearing a Nike baseball cap, sunglasses and a floral-print button-down shirt with a neon v-neck underlay. She is seen holding a pair of Target bags and pushing a shopping cart. You can see the two full-length photos below.

The pictures contrasts significantly with one taken two days ago by Dharapak showing the first lady at the White House in a sleek blue pencil skirt, high heels and a ruffled blouse.

The AP reported that Secret Service agents, dressed casually, arrived at the store 30 minutes before the first lady, who shopped with an assistant. She reportedly spent 30-40 minutes shopping and was only recognized by her cashier.

The first lady was seen wearing a dress from Target, which sells relatively low-cost clothing, in Phoenix in August 2009. She has also been seen wearing clothes from J. Crew and The Gap.

In the 2008 presidential campaign, Mrs. Obama proudly proclaimed herself "more of a Target shopper," saying she preferred the store to Wal-Mart.

THE X FACTOR: The Final Auditions!

This is it, people- the final round of THE X FACTOR auditions! And if an intense ‘O Fortuna' montage of audition highlights, followed by a ‘Livin on a Prayer' intro to tonight's New Jersey auditions wasn't enough to get you pumped for the grand finale of round one, I just don't know what could have.

Brooklyn-born Brian Bradley kicked off tonight's auditions with a bang. The 14-year-old, who humbly proclaimed that he will soon be bigger than Jay-Z, began his rap performance by freaking out at Simon, which looking back was most likely a part of his act. You couldn't deny however that the kid has talent, and Simon agreed, right after pointing out that he was ‘arrogant, obnoxious, and argumentative.' Four well-deserved yeses went to Mr. Bradley.

The wunderkind was followed by a slew of the judges' favorites, including: Aaron Surgeon, Kelly Warner, and Liliana Rose Andreano, who sang "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing," "Hallelujah," and "You Are My Sunshine" respectively. All three, of course, made it through.

Following that series of stand-outs was the unfortunate, 43-year old Andy, whose life goals included being on MTV's Cribs and winning THE X FACTOR so that he could finally get kissed by a girl. Need I say more? Don't worry, I will. In Andy's version of "Hero," he made the bold choice of singing the song in the same octave as Ms. Carey. And alas, Andy ended up going home alone with Mama Arlene after all.

With the set up that they gave Clarissa ‘Cashmere' from Philadelphia, I really expected her to be talented. She was dressed like a normal person. She enjoyed karaoke. She admired Mariah Carey. I just didn't see it coming when she proved absolutely tone-deaf singing "Always Be My Baby." From that point onward, the bad auditions continued to snowball, until they hit rock bottom with a performance that sounded more like a dying goat than actual singing.
17-year old Cari Fetcher then took the stage to sing Heart's "Alone"-one of my personal favorites. She started off a bit rocky, but by the time she got to the chorus she had the audience screaming. Nicole thought she had potential, though Simon argued that there was nothing distinctive about her. In the end, Simon changed his mind, and Cari won four votes to send her onward.

BFF's Austin and Emily (who together formed Ausem- get it?), sang Christina Perri's "Jar of Hearts." The performance included adequate vocals and some very Middle School, back and forth staging, which I suppose was excusable considering that they were 15. Simon pointed out that their audience would understand them, but L.A. and Nicole weren't convinced that they worked as a package. Heavily influenced by Austin's talent and the duo's personal cheering section, they got four yeses. I don't get it, but maybe 15-year old me would have?

Next up was 21-year old Tora Woloshin, whose distinctive looks, eccentric personality, and mind-blowing performance immediately reminded me of Lady Gaga. The race car-lovin' girl KILLED The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back," and the judges all fell in love with her. Dare I say that she was my favorite of the night? I do.

Jor-el Garcia then added some humor to the night with his way over-the-top performance of Madonna's "Lucky Star." He got no's across the board, but at least he had fun with it!
The not-so-bad-looking Brennin Hunt (Kyle Dean Massey anyone?) then sang his own original tune: "How We Make It," which Simon immediately pointed out was very risky. But the risk proved worth it as not only was the song actually good, but his smoky baritone voice was enough to make any lady (or even man) melt on the spot. Did I already pick my favorite of the night? I think I've changed my mind...

Devon Talley then brought some Broadway to the evening with a painful rendition of "Seasons of Love." Let's just forget that even happened.

16 year old Jazzlyn Little closed the season one auditions with Mary J. Blige's "I'm Goin Down." Her performance was solid, but I couldn't help feeling that her vocals were a little weak... Maybe because that song doesn't really go anywhere range-wise? Clearly I'm the only one who thought that way though, because the judges jumped to their feet once she finished- so we'll be seeing more of Ms. Little.

Herman Cain: The GOP’s next big thing?

Almost lost amid the buzz this week over the possibility that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie may seek the the Republican nomination for president was the potential rise of a candidate already in the race: Herman Cain.

After a series of impressive debate performances and a new poll showing him in third place, he is the latest GOP candidate to ride the boom and bust, we-love-you-we-love-you-not cycle of this year’s volatile race.

The former Godfather’s Pizza executive, in his double-breasted suits and gold-colored ties, has wowed debate audiences with his preacherly cadence, his humor and his pizza slogan-worthy 9-9-9 approach to tax policy. (That would be a 9 percent income tax, 9 percent corporate tax and new 9 percent national sales tax.)

Cain has also impressed his rivals, many of whom named him as a potential running mate in the last Republican debate.

Yet on that Florida debate stage, the choice of Cain as a hypothetical vice president was not so much a sign of his strength, but more of a feeling that Cain wasn’t a true threat.

That may have changed somewhat after the debate. Cain scored an upset against Texas Gov. Rick Perry two days later, notching a double-digit win in the Florida straw poll. And in the most recent Fox News poll, Cain is in third place with 17 percent of the vote, statistically tied with Perry, in his strongest poll showing so far.

Unlike others who have had their moment this year, Cain brings something different to the 2012 GOP nominating contest: He is a black man in a party that has battled charges of racism.

In an interview this week with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that became the talk of cable television, Cain said he thinks that at least a third of African American voters would be inclined to support his candidacy because they are “open-minded” and not “brainwashed” by President Obama and the Democrats.

“It’s just brainwashing and people not being open-minded, pure and simple,” Cain said.

“This whole notion that all black Americans are necessarily going to stay and all vote for Obama, that’s simply not true. More and more black Americans are thinking for themselves, and that’s a good thing.”

On MSNBC’s “Hardball” Thursday, Michael Steele, the first black chairman of the Republican National Committee, conceded that Republicans have a problem selling their message to minority voters, but he pointed to victories in the 2010 elections by black GOP Reps. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Allen B. West (R-Fla.) as evidence that the party is having more success.

Next week, a Simon and Schuster imprint will release Cain’s memoir, “This Is Herman Cain! My Journey to the White House,” in which Cain imagines himself sitting in Obama’s office. (The original title was “Who is Herman Cain?,” suggesting that Cain’s time on the stump has at least raised his profile.)

Cain’s mini-surge comes as the GOP presidential field still lacks a front-runner, with many pining for Christie, and the more conservative and libertarian wings of the party still searching for a consensus candidate and split among Perry, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.).

Cain’s showing in Florida has helped his case among donors, an aide said.

“We are consistently raising several hundred thousand dollars a day,” said Ellen Carmichael, Cain’s press secretary.

Over the next few days, Cain will begin touring to promote his book, open offices in early states and meet with former New York mayor Ed Koch and Donald Trump, who has also met with Perry and Mitt Romney.

While Cain’s win in Florida was largely seen as a rebuke of Perry, who stumbled badly in the debate, it was seen by some as a rejection of the idea that Republicans have a race problem.

“The notion that Democrats elected a black man for president has some in the GOP thinking that maybe they can do the same,” said Michael K. Fauntroy, who wrote “Republicans and the Black Vote.” “At some level, with Cain, the party is hoping to absolve itself from some of the criticism around race.”

Cain, 65, certainly thinks that he can help his party attract up to a third of the African American vote.

Cain’s status as a graduate of Morehouse, a prominent historically black college, could resonate with some black voters, Fauntroy said, but it’s unlikely that he could actually win a significant portion of the African American vote.

“His politics are out of line for what most black people are looking for,” Fauntroy said. “And he said black people were brainwashed, and that’s not what you say to people whose votes you want.”

Alyssa Milano says baby son Milo Thomas makes her 'look good'

Alyssa Milano debuted her new son Milo Thomas Bugliari in Wednesday's Us Weekly magazine and the actress joked that Milo makes her "look good" because he's such a good baby.

Milano and her husband David Bugliari welcomed Milo on August 31 and motherhood seems to be agreeing with the actress.

"Everything is going so well," Milano told Us Weekly. "David told me, 'It's like you were dropped off from Planet Mom!' I said, 'No, he's such a great baby, he's just making me look good!'"

The 38-year-old actress and David Bugliari, a 32-year-old talent agent, married in August 2009. Milo, who weighed 7 lbs. and was 19 inches long, is the first child for both.

"There is nothing like seeing the man you love with your child," Milano continued. "The other day David was carrying him in a BabyBjorn while making work phone calls! It was so sweet and beautiful."

Milano, who announced in February that she was expecting her first baby with Bugliari, revealed the baby's gender on Twitter the following month.

"As fun as it was reading all of your gender predictions on Twitter, I'm really bad at keeping secrets and had to share (not to mention, I was bound to unintentionally slip at some point)," Milano wrote. "David and I are elated to announce that we are having a baby boy. We can't wait to meet him."

Milano recently appeared in the comedy "Hall Pass," which was directed by Bobby and Peter Farrelly.

She rose to fame with the comedy series "Who's the Boss?" and later went on to star in the shows "Charmed," the original "Melrose Place" and "My Name Is Earl." She also appeared in movies such as "Fear" and "Poison Ivy II" and inspired the face of Ariel in Disney's animated film "The Little Mermaid." In 2010, Milano starred in the short-lived series "Romantically Challenged."

Milano will next appear in the ensemble cast of "New Year's Eve," which is slated for release on December 9, 2011.

Milano was married to songwriter Cinjun Tate between January and November of 1999. They have no children.

Are Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher Splitting Up?

Is Demi Moore going to have to change her Twitter handle?

According to a report from Star Magazine, Moore and Ashton Kutcher are splitting up after six years of marriage.

The magazine says that Moore and Kutcher have been living apart "for months" and that the couple is headed for a $290 million divorce. The cause for the split? The magazine says the new Two and a Half Men star has cheated on his wife. A year ago, a woman told Star Magazine that she had carried on an affair with Kutcher.

Multiple gossip sites began to question the stability of their marriage after Kutcher and Moore spent their wedding anniversary, Sept. 24, apart. According to People, Kutcher was seen clubbing with friends in San Diego while Moore was in New York. Moore, usually an avid tweeter, has also been posting slightly cryptic messages as of late. "When we are offended at any man's fault, turn to yourself & study your own failings. Then you will forget your anger. —Epictetus," Moore tweeted on Sept. 23. Three days later, she tweeted "I see through you" and linked to a picture of herself not smiling with her eyes closed.

Moore, who is 15 years Kutcher's senior, wed the TV star in 2005 after dating for two years. She was previously married to musician Freddy Moore and then actor Bruce Willis, with whom she has three daughters.

Saudi woman driver saved from 10 lashes

Riyadh:  A Saudi government official says King Abdullah has overturned a court verdict that sentenced a Saudi woman to be lashed 10 times for defying the kingdom's ban on women driving.

The official declined to elaborate. He spoke Wednesday on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media.

A day earlier, a Saudi court found Shaima Jastaina guilty of violating the driving ban, and sentenced her to 10 lashes.

It was the first time a legal punishment had been handed down for breaking the longtime ban in the ultraconservative Muslim nation. No laws prohibit women from driving, but conservative religious edicts have banned it.

Earlier this week, King Abdullah announced that women will have the right to vote and run in the country's 2015 local elections.

Michael Jackson's Children Watched Conrad Murray Try to Revive Him

Michael Jackson's children cried as they watched Dr. Conrad Murray attempt to revive the king of pop's lifeless body in the bedroom of Jackson's rented mansion, the head of Jackson's security team testified today at Murray's manslaughter trial.

Faheem Muhammad described to jurors the chain of events on the day Jackson died from a drug overdose, June 25, 2009.

Muhammad said that when he reached the Jackson home, he found a sweaty Murray in Jackson's bedroom hovering over Jackson, who was lying on the floor.

"He appeared to be administering CPR. He appeared very nervous," Muhammad said.

Jackson's "eyes were open and his mouth was slightly open," Muhammad said, adding that he appeared to be dead.

The security guard and driver said Jackson appeared dead. Muhammad asked if 911 had been called and was told that they were on their way.

"Immediately, I was shocked just seeing him. Shortly after that, I realized that his children were standing outside of his room … the two older ones," Muhammad said.

"Paris was on the ground balled up crying and Prince ... was standing there … and he just had a real shocked, just slowly crying type of look on his face," he said.

Muhammad said he grabbed the children and called for their nanny and moved them to a place where they couldn't see Jackson.

Murray showed little emotion in the courtroom as Muhammad recounted the frantic effort to save Jackson's life. Murray could face four years in prison if convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the overdosing death of Jackson.

Muhammad's testimony followed that of Jackson's personal assistant, Michael Amir Williams. Williams told jurors that soon after Jackson's death, Murray requested to return to the Jackson home because "there's some cream in Michael's room in the house that he wouldn't want the world to know about."

Propofol, the powerful anesthetic found in Jackson's system at the time of his death, has a white, creamy appearance and is called "milk" by addicts.

Williams was the first to receive a call from a panicked Murray at 12:13 p.m. In his hurried message, Williams said, Murray screamed, "Call me right away. ... Please call me right away."

Murray told Williams that Jackson had suffered a "bad reaction." Unable to get to the Jackson home quickly, Williams asked Jackson's driver and head of security, Muhammad, to check on Jackson.

Murray never told Williams to call 911, a sign of negligence and abandonment, prosecutors contend.

Both Williams and Muhammad recounted locking Murray out of the Jackson home by telling him a lie that police had taken their keys from them.

Murray's Role as Jackson's Personal Physician

The testimony followed a morning of witnesses' describing how Murray came to be Jackson's physician. Murray was hired to be Jackson's doctor as the singer prepared to embark on a 50-night comeback tour dubbed "This Is It."

Attorney Kathy Jorrie negotiated Murray's contract and told jurors that she had questioned a request from Murray that his contract include a CPR machine.

The contract was drafted days before Jackson died and signed by Murray the day before Jackson died.

"I wanted to know why he needed that medical equipment so I asked him," Jorrie said. "He said that when Michael was performing at the O2 Arena [in London], he will be putting on an extraordinary performance. Because of that, given his age and the strenuous performance that he would be putting on ... he needed to be sure that if something went wrong he would have the CPR machine."

Attorney Jorrie testified that when she asked Murray why he would need the CPR machine because the O2 Arena likely had one, Murray told her that he didn't want to take any chances.

Murray repeatedly told Jorrie that Jackson was in excellent health and when she asked for Jackson's medical records, she said, Murray told her they would be thin because of Jackson's good health.

Jorrie also questioned Murray about his request for another medical professional, a nurse or doctor, to be on standby to fill in for Murray. Jorrie assumed Murray would be treating Jackson during the day and was unaware that Murray was administering propofol, a powerful anesthetic, to help Jackson sleep and staying up late at night to monitor Jackson.

Earlier this morning, Paul Gongaware, an AEG Live promoter who was helping sponsor Jackson's comeback tour, testified about hiring Murray.

He said Jackson had insisted that Murray be hired, despite Gongaware's urging that an English physician be hired because the concerts would be taking place in London.

Gongaware recounted Jackson pointing to his own body and saying, "this is the machine, we have to take care of the machine. This is what I want, I want Dr. Murray."

Murray originally asked for $5 million a year, Gongaware said. Gongaware said that that was a "ridiculous" request.

"I told him there was no way that was going to happen," he said. "Michael couldn't afford it."

Negotiations temporarily ended until Jackson told Gongaware to offer Murray $150,000 a month.

Murray originally refused that offer too until Gongaware told him that it was an offer directly from Jackson.

Promoter Gongaware began his testimony Tuesday and told jurors that he had his own meeting with an incoherent Jackson in the early stages of rehearsals in the summer of 2009.

"He was a little bit off. His speech was just very slightly slurred and he was a little slower than I'd known him to be," Gongaware said of the meeting.

Gongaware said Jackson had come from seeing his doctor, dermatologist Arnold Klein. Murray's defense team claimed in opening statements that Klein had addicted Jackson to demerol and that Murray was unaware that Jackson was abusing that drug. Murray believed Jackson was only using propofol and sedatives under Murray's supervision to help him sleep, the defense said in opening statements on Tuesday.

"Dr. Arnold Klein addicted Michael Jackson to Demerol ... one of the insidious effects, one of the most difficult things about Demerol addiction and its withdrawal is an inability to sleep," defense attorney Ed Chernoff said. "Michael Jackson told Dr. Murray that his insomnia was the result of his mind always racing ... it was the genius of him ... and perhaps that's partly true ... but it was also the demerol."

Patti Stanger sorry for offending gay men

Patti Stanger has apologized for saying that gay men are incapable of monogamous relationships on a Bravo talk show Sunday.

“I am so sorry.  I did not mean to offend anyone with my comments last night on ‘Watch What Happens Live,’” she said in a statement to GLAAD.

“The Millionaire Matchmaker” told a gay male caller he could maintain an open relationship because “there is no curbing gay men,” she said.

She also told another gay caller it was a “compliment” that she thought he was straight.

Host Andy Cohen looked a tad shocked during the segment, but has not publicly addressed her comments.

Bravo, however, did not back Stanger. The network said in a statement, “Bravo regrets the comments expressed by Patti Stanger. ... Her comments are not representative of the network’s beliefs and opinions. We apologize for the offense it caused.”

During her appearance, Stanger also said that “Jewish men lie.” She also told smart women they should “dumb it down” to get a man in a recent interview. Stanger has not addressed either of those comments.

Stanger appeared on HLN’s “The Joy Behar Show,” where she claimed that her monogamy comments were specific to gay men in Los Angeles. Watch that segment below.

Eddie Cibrian: 'I Couldn't Pass Up' 'The Playboy Club'

Eddie Cibrian was immediately attracted to NBC’s The Playboy Club.

"This is so different than anything I've ever done, and it's different for TV, too, especially now. I really couldn't pass it up," Cibrian, 38 -- who plays smoothtalking Nick Dalton.

"I've done many, many series, but this is the most high-profile show that I've been a part of," he adds. "I've been doing this for so long now that I never listen to or pay attention to any hype or buzz. The nature of the TV business is very fickle and you don't know what is going to catch audience's attention."

Cibrian got his start on The Young and the Restless, and has since appeared on Third Watch, CSI: Miami, Invasion and Chase. He met his wife LeAnn Rimes on the set of a Lifetime movie, Northern Lights.

"You just have to attach yourself to projects that, at the end of the day, whether it was a success or not, you were happy to be a part of it," says Cibrian.

Of his character, Cibrian says, "He is a chameleon. He's very social, very liked by a lot of people. On the facade, he seems to have it all. He's very successful. He's dating the head Playboy bunny. He's one of the first keyholders at the Playboy Club, but he has a very mysterious past."

"During that time in Chicago, the Mob was extremely influential in everything. He was a part of that growing up, in some respects. We'll find out, without giving too much away, that he was raised by some members of the Mob," Cibrian goes on to USA Today. "So, he's done some things in the past that he's not very proud of, and he's always been trying to break free from that. Now, he has an opportunity to actually really start doing good. You'll see he's going to start making a run for state's attorney, and that's going to bring him a lot of animosity from the underworld."

Cibrian commutes back to Los Angeles every weekend from the Chicago set of the series, which airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET/PT, to spend time with Rimes, 29, and his two sons with ex wife Brandi Glanville of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills: Mason, 8, and Jake, 4.

Cibrian also opened up about Rimes' thin physique, which has received criticism.

“It bothers me because, obviously, I know she’s healthy. She eats more than I do sometimes,” he told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Access Hollywood Live on Monday. “She’s just a very [conscientious] eater, as far as what she eats. She eats pretty healthy, but she works out pretty hard too and she actually takes pride in the way she looks and it’s a shame that people will jump on the bandwagon just because she is fit. And she’s far from unhealthy.”

Christie gives major speech amid White House buzz

Chris Christie will deliver a much-anticipated speech tonight at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, as the buzz continues over whether he'll run for president.

Christie spokeswoman Maria Comella said the governor will speak about American exceptionalism and discuss Reagan's "transformative leadership to depict how the United States' role and significance in the world is defined by who we are at home."

For several days now, there has been a renewed interest in whether Christie will reverse course and jump into the GOP race for the White House. That buzz has come as Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who is leading Gallup and other national polls on the race, stumbled in last week's debate in Orlando and lost the Florida straw poll to Herman Cain.

Former New Jersey governor Thomas Kean, who has known Christie since he was a teenager, told the National Review that Christie is "very seriously" thinking about running and is getting entreaties from "major figures around the country."

Other people close to Christie have said in recent days that the governor hasn't changed his mind.

Christie, known for his bluntness, has gained wide acclaim in the Republican Party for his handling of the state's budget woes. He earned kudos earlier this year for his work with Democrats and labor unions to get an agreement from state workers to pay more for their pension benefits -- negotiations that Christie said should be a model for President Obama and Congress.

But Christie, a former federal prosecutor who defeated incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine in 2009, has said he doesn't feel ready to be president. His wife, Mary Pat, is said to be against the idea of a national campaign. And Christie has jokingly said that if he were picked to be a running mate then the GOP nominee would have to be "sedated" for choosing him.

'Bling Ring' Defendant Rachel Lee Pleads No Contest in Celebrity Burglary Case

One of the co-defendants in the highly publicized celebrity burglary case, known as the 'Bling Ring, has pleaded no contest to her single charge.

21-year-old Rachel Lee, along with Nicholas Prugo, Diana Tamayo, Courtney Leigh Ames and Roy Lopez Jr. used celebrity websites like TMZ to locate Hollywood homes and rob them blind.

Prosecutors claim Lee broke into former The Hills' star Audrina Patridge's home and made off with millions in jewelery and clothes. She faces four years in jail for her burglary charge. Her co-defendants are expected to go to trial early next year.

Ironically, Lifetime is premiering their mini-movie loosely based around the crimes, titled The Bling Ring.

The five burglars have also been accused of breaking into the homes of Orlando Bloom, Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson, Brian Austin-Green and Megan Fox.

It's Off to IKEA We Go!

We all have them. Those dreams where you feel like you're falling. You're going nuts in your sleep because you've just toppled off a 100 story building and you know you're falling to your death.

Or how about the ones where you're stuck in some big hole. In between rocks in a big canyon. Maybe someone is even holding you hostage and you can't move. You're so scared. You're trying to kick and scream and wriggle your way free but you can't. It's impossible.

Maybe you wake up and you've somehow happened to fall out of bed. Or there's the possibility that you have managed to cocoon yourself so tightly into your covers that you can't move. If you're from North America there will never be a time in your life when you wake up and you've fallen through the middle of your bed. In Europe ... it happens.

It's because some genius thought it was a good idea to push two single beds together to form one twin bed for you and your husband to sleep in. This same nerd wrapped the two mattresses in one dirty, old sheet, and put it on top of a twin sized bed frame. Over the course of one single evening, you and your man friend manage to wriggle your mattresses about two inches away from each other ... never to meet again.

This is where the falling through the middle of the bed comes in. Or getting your foot caught in that little crevice and thinking some big, bad boogie man is chasing you and has just dove to catch your ankle and won't ever let you go.

Pretty solid representation.
So today we head to IKEA! I have grandiose dreams of one queen sized mattress, a nice bed frame, head board and wonderful, warm sheets. In reality I'm looking for an egg crate mattress top. Just to fix that tiny little crevice problem. A cute arrangement of some sort for the space above our stairs - I'm tired of looking at dust. Maybe an ottoman so Matty can put his feet up, and a rug for in front of our couch because these tile floors are ridiculously cold (I can't imagine what it's going to feel like when the weather is in the negatives).

My issue with the rug? Well, when you're couch looks like this, what should your rug look like?

I'm thinking I go big with the rug. Make the rug my statement piece.
Good choice, bad choice?
Okay, I'm kidding. I'm thinking along the lines of something soft, plush, and simple. How about the ABORG?

Yes. I think this will do.

People: Report says music great Sly Stone is near homeless in Los Angeles

Sly Stone, the soul music mastermind who rose out of the East Bay with his band Sly and the Family Stone and became one of the most influential musicians in R&B history, has fallen on hard times and lives in a van in a rough Los Angeles neighborhood, the New York Post reported Monday.

"I like my small camper," Stone told the New York Post. "I just do not want to return to a fixed home. I cannot stand being in one place. I must keep moving." The Post said Stone parks his motor home in the Crenshaw section of L.A., the brutal neighborhood where the movie "Boyz n the Hood" was filmed.

A retired couple makes sure he eats once a day, and Stone showers at their house. The couple's son serves as his assistant and driver. Inside the van, the report says, Stone, 68, continues to record music with a laptop computer. He recently released an album, "I'm Back, Family and Friends," which consisted largely of reworked versions of his classic hits.

Sly and the Family Stone, which formed in Vacaville, was credited, along with such artists as Stevie Wonder and James Brown, with laying the foundation for contemporary soul, funk and R&B. Following the band's overwhelming success, Stone eventually relocated to a 5,432-square-foot Beverly Hills mansion that once belonged to John Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas.

It has long been reported that Stone succumbed to drug addiction and other problems after resettling in L.A., and that he went through thousands and thousands of dollars buying narcotics, cars and motorcycles. His career suffered from a string of drug arrests and missed appearances. Sly and the Family Stone broke up in 1975. Stone performed in 1987, then vanished from the stage until 2006, when he appeared in a bizarre Grammys tribute, during which he walked off the stage midway through a song.

Just what has been going on with Stone all these years has been difficult to chronicle, given his reclusive nature. As the Post reporters noted, "just getting him in a room requires hours or years of detective work, middlemen, and, of course, making peace with the likelihood that he just won't show up."

Stone's last Bay Area home, the New Yost Post says, was a spacious a Napa Valley house with a vineyard out back and multiple cars in the driveway.

Stone tells the Post he started having serious money problems in 2009, stemming from a bad management contract he signed in 1989. He has been locked in a legal battle with a former manager for the past year, and is hopeful he can get his music career going again.

"Please tell everybody, please, to give me a job, play my music," the soul legend told the Post. "I'm tired of all this (expletive), man. I see all the guys playing those old songs. Let these guys know, like Lady Gaga, let me come in, just let me come in and pay me if you like it."

Kristin Cavallari's 'Dancing With The Stars' Rehearsal 'Sweaty But Fun'

'I don't have any dance experience, so this is very new for me,' former 'Hills' starlet tells MTV News.

Kristin Cavallari may not have started out as a dancer, but she's definitely a quick learner.

On the season 13 debut of "Dancing With the Stars" last week, the 24-year-old former "Hills" and "Laguna Beach" starlet wowed the judges and audiences alike when she shook her way through the cha-cha, proving she has more to offer than just reality-TV drama. MTV News caught up with "DWTS" pro Mark Ballas and the former reality bad girl, who stressed the show's grueling (but fun) rehearsal schedule.

"Mark and I have been rehearsing since 8 in the morning, which Mark's not very happy about," the blond bombshell confessed. "But it's been a good day. We're getting a lot done. We've been here for five hours almost, so we're a little sweaty, but it's been fun."

"I'm not a morning person at all," Ballas reaffirmed.

Even though Cavallari nabbed a respectable score during the season premiere (19/30), the starlet told us she's not used to all the showstopping choreography. "I don't have any dance experience, so this is very new for me. I'm out of my element here. The only style of dance I would do is like bop around at a club," she laughed.

Coming off a rough year, which includes a broken engagement, Cavallari said she's "having a lot of fun" in rehearsals, particularly learning the quickstep, which she'll be performing on Monday night's (September 26) episode. There is another dance on her bucket list as well.

"I'm looking forward to learning how to salsa dance. That's something I've always wanted to do," she said. "Dancers ... how they way they carry themselves is just completely different than how we do it in our everyday lives. They're just very free with their bodies, which I'm not very used to, although with the quickstep, I have to be very in frame and strong."

Ballas is also intent on helping the reality star build up her physique, saying, "We're working on core muscles, trying to get those abs rocking."

Will you be voting for Kristin on "Dancing With the Stars"? Tell us in the comments!

Freed Hikers Discuss Life in Iranian Prison

Freed U.S. hikers Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer told reporters gathered at a New York hotel that they were so isolated in the Iranian prison where they were held for over two years that they didn't know they were being freed until minutes before their release last week.

Now that they are back on American soil, Fattal and Bauer are using their newfound freedom to discuss the two years they spent in a Tehran prison and to condemn their captors.

"Last Wednesday … something totally unexpected happened," Fattal said. "The guards took us downstairs. They fingerprinted us and gave us street clothes. They did not tell us where we were going. They took us to another part of the prison where we saw [envoy] Dr. Salem Al Ismaily … The first thing Salem said to us was, 'Let's go home.'"

Speaking at a press conference Sunday five hours after arriving at New York's JFK airport, Fattal and Bauer discussed the most traumatic aspects of their imprisonment, spoke of how they spent their first days of freedom last week and looked ahead to how they will fight for those still held as political prisoners around the world.

"How can we forgive the Iranian government when it continues to imprison so many other innocent people," Bauer told reporters.

For the first time the two were able to give the details of the isolation in which they lived and the conditions in Tehran's Evin Prison, where they spent 781 days.

"In all the time we spent in detention, we had a total of 15 minutes of telephone calls with our families and one, short visit from our mothers. We had to go on hunger strike repeatedly just to receive letters from our loved ones," Fattal told reporters.

"Many times, too many times, we heard the screams of other prisoners being beaten and there was nothing we could do to help them," he said, "Solitary confinement was the worst experience of our lives.

"It was clear to us from the very beginning that we were hostages," he added.

They were often blind-folded, occasionally beaten, and repeatedly lied to -- told their families had stopped writing letters and that diplomats had stopped pushing for their freedom.

"We have been held in almost total isolation from the world and everything we love," Bauer said.

To survive in jail, the two kept busy improvising -- testing each other on graduate school exam questions, reading novels, and exercising with whatever they could find.

"They were very serious about their exercise and they used water bottles as weights in their cells to build muscles," Laura Fattal, Alex Fattal's mother said.

Fattal, Bauer and Bauer's now fiancée Sarah Shourd were arrested over two years ago while hiking along Iran's unmarked border with Iraq.

They were accused of spying, and last month Fattal and Bauer were sentenced to eight years in prison.

Bauer, a freelance journalist, and Fattal, and environmental activist, have denied the charges, saying they were just hiking in Iraq's scenic north, and might have accidentally crossed an unmarked border with Iran.

Looking ahead, they have spoken of helping to free political prisoners around the world. The two did not shy away from criticism of the Iranian government and its treatment of political prisoners.

"Journalists remain behind bars and innocent people have been executed," Bauer said. "If the Iranian government wants to change its image in the world, and ease international pressure, it should release all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience immediately. They deserve their freedom just as much as we do."

Once free on Wednesday, the two were reunited with Shourd and their families in Muscat, Oman, where they spent a few days resting and enjoying their freedom.

"We were able to swim in the calm waters of the Gulf. We stayed up all night with our loved ones and watched the most beautiful sunrise we have ever seen. These experiences will be with us for the rest of our lives," said Fattal.

For the coming weeks, the two men will spend private time with their families. Baur and Shourd finally had time to celebrate their engagement while in Oman, and discuss the wedding bells to come.

Saudi Arabia to allow women to vote

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia surprised his ultraconservative nation Sunday by announcing bold reforms that for the first time will give women the right to vote, run for local office and serve on the Shura Council, the king's advisory board.

The measures by an aging monarch who has battled Islamic hard-liners for years will marginally improve the standing of women in a country that still forbids them to drive or leave the house without their faces covered. The moves appear likely to enrage religious conservatives while advancing at least a veneer of change in one of the world's most repressive states.

"Because we refuse to marginalize women in society in all roles that comply with sharia [Islamic law], we have decided … to involve women in the Shura Council as members, starting from the next term," the king said in a five-minute speech to his advisors.

He added: "Women will be able to run as candidates" in the 2015 municipal election "and will even have a right to vote."

The announcement suggests that the ailing 87-year-old king seeks a legacy as a reformer, despite making only modest inroads on human rights. Abdullah built the country's first coeducational university and has granted 120,000 scholarships to students, many of them women, to study outside the country. Each move was opposed by clerics and religious ultraconservatives in the royal family.

Allowing women to vote is "hugely significant," said Lubna Hussain, a Saudi writer. "The king is implementing the reform promises he made when he became leader. It shows he is not willing to pander to religious fundamentalists … who are quite weakened and don't seem to have the voice they used to."

The new rights for women come as Saudi Arabia has bristled at demands for political freedoms that have sparked spirited rebellions across the Arab world and toppled such longtime allies of the king as Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. When rumblings of revolt echoed in Saudi Arabia, the government, whose security forces are omnipresent, promised $130 billion in salary raises and spending for social and religious programs.

Such largesse and attempts at modernization have kept Abdullah popular even as challenges to the royal family have been quickly crushed. Saudi dissidents and human rights groups have condemned the government for crackdowns that have occasionally damaged the king's image and led to criticism that his family's reliance on religious conservatives to stay in power makes him too cautious a reformer.

The king is the counterbalance to influential anti-reformist forces, including Prince Nayif ibn Abdulaziz, the interior minister, who many believe may succeed Abdullah. Nayif is sympathetic to fundamentalist Wahhabi clerics who uphold the segregation of sexes and have resisted the monarch's attempts at modest reforms to ease religion's grip on schools, courts and other institutions.

Yet discriminatory laws, such as those preventing women from driving, have become an international embarrassment for the kingdom, a key U.S. ally that relies on oil wealth to expand its diplomatic stature. A number of women were arrested over the summer for defying the driving ban. Analysts predicted that by allowing women to vote the king has opened the possibility for wider rights debates.

But others said the latest reforms were diversions that did little to change the plight of women in a country where they can be flogged for adultery and cannot travel abroad without the permission of a male guardian.

"It's a mixed feeling. On one hand he opens the door for her and on the other hand she is still banned from driving," said Mohammad Fahad Qahtani, a college professor and human rights advocate. "It doesn't save her from horrible treatment by government agencies and the courts. It's a symbolic gesture, but it is in no way enough to improve the lives of women."

He added: "These rights to vote are still, if you see how it's worded, are contingent on Islamic jurisprudence. So we'll have to see in coming years what happens. The devil could be in the details. But maybe it'll get some international praise for the regime."

Sunday's announcements "represent an important step forward in expanding the rights of women in Saudi Arabia, and we support King Abdullah and the people of Saudi Arabia as they undertake these and other reforms," said Tommy Vietor, spokesman for the U.S. National Security Council.

The change will not alter the Saudi power structure. Municipal councils have little authority and only half their members are elected. The Shura Council, a body akin to a parliament but with no legislative power, advises the king on economic, social and international affairs.

But liberals and activists believe that even a little nudge forward in the kingdom is significant.

"It's almost like a watershed," said Hussain, who has written eloquently over the years on women's rights. "You'll now have women in [the Shura Council] taking up women's causes. Before it was men talking for us. It's quite revolutionary and it will open up a Pandora's box."

Let's Get It Started

Today marks the first regular season game for Asiago! Let's go ... SUPERMERCATI!! Actually I don't have a clue what our team mascot or name is. I know that we're HC Asiago and we're yellow. Well, sometimes we're yellow. I'm not sure what other color we are yet. But I'll find out soon! I won't be in the dark for much longer. I apologize.

Based on this logo I bet we're the lions. HC Asiago Lions. Rawr.
Oh, and we're red. But I found this logo after I wrote that first paragraph.
I've been here for just under a week now and I'm finally starting to get my bearings. I'm finding my way around town without a guide, our internet is (obviously) working, Lucy has gone right back to her playful self (yes, Cincinnati was way too hot for her this summer), and after kicking most of this cold I woke up decently early and went for my first run in a week.

Last year I got sick and did everything I could to push through the pain and still workout. I found this to be a very bad idea. For me. Or at least for that specific sickness. If you're not quite sick yet, a good sweat could get all of that bad bacteria out of you, if you're already sick you will probably just wear yourself down even more. That's what I did. So from that point I have tried to let my body, and immune system, rest while I'm sick and not push myself too hard. Today was the perfect day to get back into it.

I went for about 25 minutes. I'm not sure how far but I kept it at a decent pace and just wound my way through the streets of town. I figured if I got lost it would just add a bit of distance. I found the closest recycling bins to our place, I now know at least three different ways to get to our street and a quicker way to get to our friends' apartment. I can find all four Euro Stores on my own now (it's their dollar store!) and can get to the arena all by myself. I feel accomplished.

Add some abs and lunges into the end of that little run and I'm definitely doing something good on this Saturday morning. I even got a relaxing bath afterward. Considering that's all you're able to take in this place.
Yep. This is our tub and slanted ceiling!
It's pre-game though right now and Matty is settling in. Most hockey players have their rituals. Some are ridiculous about the order in which things must be done on game day: what exactly they eat, whether they nap at 1 p.m. or 2 p.m., and if that nap lasts only 32 minutes or one hour and 30 minutes.

I'm lucky. Matty isn't quite like that. Of course he likes pasta and meat to get his carbs and protein in for the day. You can't work as hard, and sweat as much, as they do without prepping your body with the right food. But it can be whatever he feels like, or what we happen to have in the house. Yes, he does like to nap, but I'm totally allowed to nap with him (which I've come to find is a rare occasion). He even lets Lucy join. He doesn't mind. His day isn't down to the minute with rituals. It's just supposed to be relaxing so he's not tired when game time rolls around.

I feel bad for the women who have to deal with an overzealous pre-game player. I applaud you on your patience. It's something that, I'm sure, you've dealt with forever and think of as just another day. Maybe it's good I came around the hockey world when I did. If Matt made me creep around the house all day so as not to disturb him, or leave the house entirely, I would have told him to beat it! But maybe that's what he gets for being with an American.

Yep. I'll pull that card.
I don't think Carrie got to nap with Mike on this day.

Do You See That Hole?

I haven't even been in Italy for a full day yet and I have already been put through the most ridiculous scavenger hunt.

The picture from my last post, remember that? Remember those mountains? Now imagine driving up one of them in a very zig-zag-like motion, with trees lining the edge and very green, very present, summer leaves.

Then a guy telling you to find a hole, the size of your pinky finger nail at the top of that mountain. Okay, from where you're driving it's the size of your pinky nail, but from up close it is apparently pretty darn big. It was blown out during WWII by a bomb. You can see straight through that part of the mountain into the blue sky that's behind it.

Cool story or not, it took me a good 10 minutes to find that hole. That should be one of those tourist attractions where you stop, look out over the distance while standing between the opening of the trees. Then there should also be a sign that says:

It's an Affair

Although I intended to spend a relaxing three weeks at home - visiting friends, hanging out with family, prettying myself (and my wardrobe) for the upcoming season in Italy - it turns out plans never go quite as expected. Who knew? I didn't know.

Tomorrow I run my first 14k. I trained for a long time for this. When this week rolled around I was in my third week of boot camp, my third week of being home, and my third week of legitimate running around to the point that I think I could implode at any moment. I am exhausted. I haven't run in three days. I sleep for a solid 10 hours a night and still feel tired during the day. I am ready for this all to slow down, hop on the next plane, and cuddle up on the couch next to my new husband.

Maybe Lucy will join us. Sometimes my kitty loves to cuddle!

This weekend, beginning tonight, entails exactly what I stayed back for. One of my high school best friend's wedding. I've spent a bit of time with her over the last few days discussing the wedding plans and this is what I'm envisioning ...

Of course that's not the dress. How dare I spoil the fun? This could be way off as well, but I guess it's sort of what I could see her doing. Either way, it's going to be fun. There will be great people, good music, fabulous friends, and I actually get to enjoy the dinner! Bonus.

However, this all comes after the dreaded run I have to do in the morning. Wish me luck, everyone! I'm going to need it.

Let's hope after all the festivities I make it to the airport on time!

Outfit of the day; Black Cherries

[ Samantha James - Breathe You In ]

Went on a small lunch date with Juls today at Savor, Latin infusion brunch place in Noe Valley. It was good and the service was excellent! Very consistent and NOT HOVERING!

On with the outfit of the day! Btw, the weather is really nice today; warm and sunny in the INLANDS but cold near Daly City.

:: Ross lace back cardigan, Forever21 dress/top, Old Navy shorts, Vernier Rose gold watch, Hautelook bouquet studs, Forever21 necklace, Blowfish wedges ::

I really like this dress/top, the fabric is thin and lightweight yet soft at the same time where it does NOT scratch my skin like some of Forever21's tops do. It can be worn as a top OR a dress. I wore shorts under because when I sit the top does tend to rise up a little, don't want my COOCKA (Jerseyshore term) to show. lol. Hope you guys have a great MONDAY!
