Cinco de Mayo: Let's eat, let's dance, let's toast


Today and this weekend there are plenty of opportunities in Orange County to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and learn more about Mexican history and culture.

FULLERTON
Fullerton Market's Cinco de Mayo: Beer garden will feature Mexican brews, a performance by the youth folklorico group Xochipitzahuatl ("Emerging Flower"), 4 p.m.-4:45 p.m., music from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. by Mar de Ashé, playing salsa, Latin jazz, cumbia, cha cha, bachata, meringue and bolero, activities for children in the Kids' Korner.

When: 4-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5.

Admission: Free.

Location: Fullerton Market is in the Downtown Plaza on Wilshire Avenue, between Harbor Boulevard and Pomona Avenue.

Ballet Folklorico Cinco De Mayo Concert: Dance and musical pieces reflecting various regions and folk music genres of Mexico.

When: 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5

SANTA ANA

"Que Viva Mexico": Teenspace participants will present a play they wrote called "Que Viva Mexico," about Mexico's struggle for independence from French occupation in the 1860s. It will be presented in English and in Spanish.

When: 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 7.

Admission: Free.

Location: Santa Ana Public Library, 26 Civic Center Plaza.

SAN CLEMENTE

21st annual Cinco de Mayo celebration: The fun includes mariachis, Aztec dancers, ballet folklorico performances and live bands, along with a student art contest and exhibit, children's activities and food and drinks.

When: Noon-6 p.m. on Saturday, May 7.
