A First Look at the 2014 Bentley Flying Spur

The new and improved 2014 Bentley Flying Spur has long been anticipated and is now available to drive. It takes luxury and comfort to an entirely different class, with a strong emphasis on creating a silky smooth ride, even when flying at top speeds. The remodelled Flying Spur has a softer suspension and lighter weight than its predecessor, along with a number of other new changes that are worth taking special note of.
An Increase in Power and Capability
One of the first ways that the new Flying Spur differs from the older model is in its output, which has been increased from 552 horsepower to 616, with 590 lb-ft of torque. This is thanks to its 6.0-litre W-12 engine, which remains the same due to it being a hallmark of the Bentley brand. Although the new car is 110 pounds lighter than the previous Bentley model, it manages to retain the same width and possesses a rear that is 1.4 inches longer. The Flying Spur lives up to its name with its ability to zip from 0 to 60 mph in only 4.3 seconds, and can top out at 200 mph. Yet with a new exhaust system in place and greater shielding, the car is also able to provide a quieter, smoother ride than previous models. In fact, it’s now a good 40% quieter, with a noticeable muting of the engine even when gunning it. Gas mileage has been slightly improved as well, with 20 mpg on the highway, 12 mpg in the city, or 15 mpg overall.
 A More Luxurious Interior
Hand-stitched, quilted leather and sleek planed wood help comprise the elegant interior of the Flying Spur. Rear seat passengers can benefit from LCD screens mounted to each of the backs of the front seats. These are fully equipped with wireless headphones, USB, and DVD players. Backseat passengers can also use a touchscreen remote to control the audio and heating systems, and even follow along with the car’s speedometer. A high attention to detail is paid to passenger comfort and the ability to individualize each experience. The interior trim is available in a wide range of bespoke trim and colour options, to give each model an air of privacy and exclusivity.
 Exterior Changes
To achieve the slimmed down weight, the exterior of the Flying Spur has been pared down as well. The front LED headlights retain their original oval shape, but they are now placed outboard. The grille has a new vertical placement, and there are visible creases that give the sheet metal a tighter look. The rear portion of the vehicle has a bit of a flare, with the slight increase in the width of the rear in comparison to the overall width of the car. The rear lamps are square in shape, but the tailpipes are designed in an oval to complement the front headlights.
For those looking for a sleek, powerful, fast, and extremely refined experience behind the wheel, the new 2014 Bentley Flying Spur doesn’t disappoint.
