Happy Thanksgiving Mi Amigos!

Did you know they don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Italy?
That was a joke. You do know that, right? I'm not an idiot. I swear. :o)

I hope you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving and you get to spend it with some awesome people. Unfortunately I didn't get to spend today with any of my family or my husband so that was kind of crappy. But I got to be with some good friends and Lucy was being super cute all day long. Which is always a plus. In fact she's half laying on my computer as I type this. It's bed time here.

Now I know turkey is the Thanksgiving staple, along with stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, and I'm sure a whole bunch of other things, that are just going to make my mouth water and not accomplish anything other than lending to the length of this sentence, but I didn't have any of that. We may have a belated Thanksgiving on Sunday, but I'm not sure? We'll see how the schedule goes. We're very busy around here.

So instead we spent our Thanksgiving another way. Immortalizing another culture by way of food. Mexico, you deserve a round of applause.
Thanksgiving Fajitas!
Today was so un-Thanksgiving-like that I decided to put up some Christmas decorations as well. Normally this waits until at least the day after but I had nothing to do today. So why not? Plus I'm going on a little girls trip tomorrow. Can't be bothered with decorating when I have Slovenia to see!!
Love covering up that TV.
Our hutch. Yes, that's an old banana and a kiwi. Not exactly Christmas fruit. Maybe next time!

What I'm {NOT} Doing This Weekend

I may be lying to myself ... okay, I lied ... because today is already Saturday and I've already done some pinning.

WHEN WILL IT STOP!

Go on Pinterest. Do it now! You'll find amazing things and wonderful new ideas. Things like these:
'nuff said.
next summer, expect this matthew.
who thought of this? you're a genius.
cheesecake inside of strawberries. healthy treat? well it's better than a whole cheesecake!
wide plank floors, white/ivory cabinets, beauty.
So it's very possible that I spend most of my week perusing this site. Starting now at 12 PM on Saturday I'm stopping. I'm spending the rest of my weekend being awesome in Italy. That means I'm going to eat a pre-game meal (for the game I'm not playing), take my pre-game nap (because I deserve that), go watch HC Asiago kick some Alleghe bum, then spend my Sunday enjoying the -hopefully- good weather with friends!

Happy Weekend. Peace out Pinterest. Until next time. Or Monday. Whatever, get off me.

{Fall} Into Place

I get into these moods sometimes where I just can't stop thinking about how nice it would be to go home, to my own home. Which we don't have by the way. We can't really bring ourselves to buy any type of permanent landing space when we're not really sure where we want to land in the first place.

I'm sure I've written at least one other post similar to this before. Talking about all the things I wish I could have. The things that I, someday, want to do to make my home feel, well, homey. I didn't dream of my wedding day, I dreamt of my home. The ivory, distressed cabinets, wood floors, and color schemes. The dishes and silverware, throws for the couch, paint colors, and even how I would store my food. I've always loved being able to see pastas and rices, beans or spices. Long before it was cool.

I'm on that kick again. I'm a sucker for Southern Living or Better Homes and Garden. I love Elle Decor, Veranda, and House Beautiful; and don't get me started on the Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma, Restoration Hardware, or Ballard Designs catalogues. Those are just to taunt me.

What are you supposed to do though? When you live 8 months a year in a country far, far away from the one you call home. When the other 4 months a year are spent packing and unpacking so that you can make sure you've visited both of your friends and family.

October always makes me think I should be in a place where seasons really do occur, every year. I miss the pumpkins, the caramel apples, leaves changing colors, even the haunted houses and hayrides, and college football. Man, it's been a long time since I've watched a game.

I want to decorate my house in Fall colors. Decorate my house in general. I bring a few items over with me each year to make it feel a bit more like home. But a few pictures in frames, dish towels with an "M", and bath towels hardly cure my longing for a proper home.

So instead I search tirelessly through internet sites for ideas I can one day make my own. I feel like Sundays should be a day where you indulge in something you love. I would truly love to spend today putting these little touches into our apartment here. But I just can't. No point in spending the money on something you may never see again, right? I guess I'm supposed to say "Right" here.

It's Off to IKEA We Go!

We all have them. Those dreams where you feel like you're falling. You're going nuts in your sleep because you've just toppled off a 100 story building and you know you're falling to your death.

Or how about the ones where you're stuck in some big hole. In between rocks in a big canyon. Maybe someone is even holding you hostage and you can't move. You're so scared. You're trying to kick and scream and wriggle your way free but you can't. It's impossible.

Maybe you wake up and you've somehow happened to fall out of bed. Or there's the possibility that you have managed to cocoon yourself so tightly into your covers that you can't move. If you're from North America there will never be a time in your life when you wake up and you've fallen through the middle of your bed. In Europe ... it happens.

It's because some genius thought it was a good idea to push two single beds together to form one twin bed for you and your husband to sleep in. This same nerd wrapped the two mattresses in one dirty, old sheet, and put it on top of a twin sized bed frame. Over the course of one single evening, you and your man friend manage to wriggle your mattresses about two inches away from each other ... never to meet again.

This is where the falling through the middle of the bed comes in. Or getting your foot caught in that little crevice and thinking some big, bad boogie man is chasing you and has just dove to catch your ankle and won't ever let you go.

Pretty solid representation.
So today we head to IKEA! I have grandiose dreams of one queen sized mattress, a nice bed frame, head board and wonderful, warm sheets. In reality I'm looking for an egg crate mattress top. Just to fix that tiny little crevice problem. A cute arrangement of some sort for the space above our stairs - I'm tired of looking at dust. Maybe an ottoman so Matty can put his feet up, and a rug for in front of our couch because these tile floors are ridiculously cold (I can't imagine what it's going to feel like when the weather is in the negatives).

My issue with the rug? Well, when you're couch looks like this, what should your rug look like?

I'm thinking I go big with the rug. Make the rug my statement piece.
Good choice, bad choice?
Okay, I'm kidding. I'm thinking along the lines of something soft, plush, and simple. How about the ABORG?

Yes. I think this will do.
